Democracy In Action

Posted on November 2, 2010September 7, 2012 by Jacky Hackett

Though I did vote today, I am actually referring to the weekly menu in our house.  The 10 year-old has requested tacos every Tuesday.  Taco Tuesday.  We’ve been doing this for about a month.  It is one night of the week where dinner is done in a snap, tacos couldn’t be easier. Tonight we tried…

Halloween Festivities

Posted on November 1, 2010September 7, 2012 by Jacky Hackett

What a beautiful day we had for Halloween.  Sure it was a bit chilly when you were not in the sun, but it could have been a ton worse.  I swear it rained or was freezing every year growing up.  We spent the day at a friend’s block party before heading out to trick or…

Posted on October 26, 2010November 1, 2020 by Jacky Hackett

This blog all started with me posting during the Halloween party preparations.  Here we are again!  This past weekend we had our Halloween party, 10th year running.  There were a ton of fun costumes, great food, lots of friends.  Most importantly, no rain.  Mother nature is clearly a fan, we have had favorable weather all…

Halloween Snack Mix

Posted on October 22, 2010October 1, 2012 by Jacky Hackett

I have been making this snack mix for years, it gets devoured by kids and adults.  The salty sweet is such a good combination, the tang of the cranberries adds the unexpected.  It couldn’t be easier to throw together and the colors are perfect for fall. Caramel Apple Pie Filling

Posted on October 19, 2010November 10, 2020 by Jacky Hackett

Thinking ahead to holidays I got some apples from the farmer’s market and used my weekend in the kitchen to get a jump start on pie making.  I am not a huge baker, the necessary precision is my down fall, so any help to make it easier is welcome.  Especially this year since we will…

Green Tomato Jam

Posted on October 16, 2010September 7, 2012 by Jacky Hackett

My favorite use on all the green tomatoes I got from my garden at the end of the season is this Green Tomato Jam With Ginger. Ginger is one of my favorite flavors and it works perfect with the green tomatoes. The only change I made to the recipe was to add in fresh ground…

Posted on October 15, 2010September 7, 2012 by Jacky Hackett

While the husband was in East Lansing celebrate the big win I spent the weekend in the kitchen.  Like all weekend.  Totally by choice though, I was really looking forward to it.  I wanted to get some of the end of the season goods canned and ready to enjoy come winter.  As planned I…

Posted on October 11, 2010January 27, 2013 by Jacky Hackett

Chili weather is officially upon us in Chicago!  Next weekend is the big chili cook-off at our Blocktoberfest.  I haven’t decided what I am going to enter, but I do have it narrowed down to three options.  Better figured it out soon!  Here is the recipe I made last year that won me a delicious…

Posted on October 9, 2010May 31, 2012 by Jacky Hackett

We finished off our weekend getaway at the  County Line Orchardin Hobart, IN.  A friend recommended it and  since it was right on our way home from New Buffalo we stopped to check it out.  The place is HUGE.  I am glad we went on a Monday, I bet it is über crowded on the weekends. …
