Sailing, Sailing Away…

Posted on August 31, 2010September 10, 2012 by Jacky Hackett

This past winter we “won” a private sailing trip on Lake Michigan.  “Won” as in we were the highest bidders on the item at a charity auction, we won by signing a check over to a great local cause.  We did this a few years back and had such a great time.  It is the…

Tools of the Trade

Posted on August 17, 2010December 15, 2011 by Jacky Hackett

Showing some love for my favorite running tools… MP3 PLAYER Music and podcasts keep me going during my runs.  At the Rock ‘n Roll Half Marathon Expo I picked up the latest and greatest Walkman from the Sony booth.  It is the W Series Walkman® MP3 Player, a far cry from my favorite Walkman back…

Oops, I Did it Again

Posted on August 6, 2010December 15, 2011 by Jacky Hackett

Signed up for another race too quickly on the heels of the last race.  Another half marathon.  Will I never learn?  I have been in search of my next race, but nothing has caught my eye.  A few non-local options I was intrigued by, though not sure I could make a reality.  A friend emailed…

Rock n’ Roll!

Posted on July 30, 2010December 15, 2011 by Jacky Hackett

The three-year old came home last week and inform me that he told all his friends at school that it was time to Rock n’ Roll.  Asked him what they said.  They said “no it’s not”.  Buzzkill! Well it is time for me to rock n’ roll and get my Frogger on again.  I am…

What’s Cooking

Posted on July 13, 2010February 23, 2014 by Jacky Hackett

A busy weekend in and out of the kitchen… We went to a block party and I made a broccoli salad and some fruit for the kids.  My daughter has a cookbook she loves and has been dying to make a fruit dip recipe from it; smashed mango, plain yogurt, and honey. I pickled more…

Guest Who?

Posted on July 8, 2010September 10, 2012 by Jacky Hackett

Did I tell you who I saw eating lunch at Petterino’s?  Scottie Pippen.  I caught a glimpse of someone from the corner of my eye and knew it had to be someone famous.  They had the beautiful person look going.  Then I realized it was Scottie Pippen.  Did I just say Scottie Pippen was beautiful? …

Tough Decisions

Posted on June 25, 2010July 19, 2011 by Jacky Hackett

Everyone at one point in thier life is faced with making tough decision.  As a parent we try to shield our children from this until they are of the age to handle it.  However, sometimes life throws you a curve ball and you just have to make them face it.  Today was one of those…

Blowin’ in the Wind

Posted on June 18, 2010September 10, 2012 by Jacky Hackett

We got a bad storm in Chicago this afternoon.  The kids and I spent it on the front porch.  Something I always did as a kid, I love me them summer thunderstorms.  We were marveling at how the trees just sway in the wind rather than snapping in half.  Ours are so young they were…

Farmer’s Market with a CSA Chaser

Posted on June 17, 2010September 7, 2012 by Jacky Hackett

I finally got to a farmer’s market this season!  I was in search of radishes and possibly some garlic scapes.  There was not a ton of produce, most of the market was herbs, vegetable plants for the garden, and flowers.  Oh and of course baked goods.  What is it about farmer’s markets that they must…

Bahn mi. What did you call me?

Posted on June 17, 2010October 22, 2011 by Jacky Hackett

Before my encounter at the Chicago French Market I had never heard of bahn mi. A bahn mi is essentially a Vietnamese baguette, also referred to as the sandwich that is served on the baguette.  The sandwich typically includes pickled carrots, daikon, cucumbers, cilantro, chili peppers, spicy mayonnaise and a protein. Now, I crave them….
