11 in ’11

Posted on January 1, 2011September 10, 2012 by Jacky Hackett

Time again that everyone is making resolutions for the new year.  I did OK on my goals set last year.  This year though I wanted specific action items to tackle.  Some big, some small, some easy, some hard, some a bit more vague then the others,  but they all work towards a better me. Here are the eleven key things to accomplish in 2011.

  1. Run a Race a Month.
My running goes better when I am working towards a goal.  The big races are great, but I want to have more frequent goals.  I ran seven races last year, this year I want to do more, a few shorter distances. I think it will be fun to try and find a road race to participate in every month.
  2. Lose Minimum of 10% of My Current Body Weight.
I have been working on this for far too long.
  3. Start Swimming Laps
Our gym has a pool and we have never used it.  I love swimming and this will be a great addition to keep my exercise routing from getting boring. I intended to get to this last year and never did.
  4. Cash is King
We’ve been living debt free (except out mortgage) for some time now.  This year I want to go cash only in effort to be more aware of what is being spent and sticking to strict budget.  Hopefully the end result is a more money in the bank.
  5. A book a month
Read a book or month, joining a book club will help.  It also will result in less screen time on the TV and laptop.
  6. Volunteer at the Food Pantry
We don’t have a ton of money to give away, but I can certainly find some time to donate.  My daughter and I will be doing this together.  We’ve been talking about it for awhile, now is the time to just do it.
  7. Volunteer at the Chicago Marathon
All the volunteers really make the race so time for me to give back to this community.
  8. Accountability to Myself
Being accountable to others is no issue, but when it comes to being accountable to myself is an issue.  For instance I’ve been wanting to get a personal trainer, but really I shouldn’t need one.  I should be able to do it for myself.
  9. Time Investment Overhaul
A lot of the other items on the list will force this issues.  Essentially I need to evaluate my time and spend it where I get the biggest return.
  10. Make Myself Uncomfortable
Get out of my comfort zone.  This applies to many areas and will have to be a work in progress, hard to pinpoint specific items to list, though #3 definitely falls in the uncomfortable zone.
  11. Send Holiday Cards
It has been three years since I last sent them!

Wish me luck.  What do you hope to tackle in the new year?

Oh I love this and I may have to borrow this idea from you! Good luck, but if I know you, you will succeed. Awesome goals!

My number one goal is to wake up breathing every day.

I applaud you for sharing with all of us and putting in writing your goals. I agree about the personal trainer/personal responsiblity…..especially when my husband works out in 2 sq ft of the bsmt with 40 year old free weights and runs in the woods…How can a personal trainer be justified – ha ha. Happy new year.

@Jilly. Well the list was inspired by your 40 for 40, so really it is your idea to begin with.

@Jody, all about the accountability 😉 and easy, frequent reference.
